Why this dilemma matters
These choices ask how much risk a society should accept so people can decide for themselves. Choosing “Permanent alertness and energy — but coffee, tea, and all caffeinated rituals are gone from your life forever” prioritises fewer restrictions now; choosing “Drink coffee freely, as much as you want — but it never wakes you up; you always feel tired” gives more weight to fewer regrets later.
Worth asking yourself
- Is the safer option also the more honest one?
- Whose freedom does this protect, and whose does it cost?
