The dilemma is whether to protect the average teen at the cost of the marginal one. The data on AI companions is genuinely two-sided: a ban would help most users by removing a default that bypasses real-world social development; the same ban would harm a smaller group for whom the AI companion is the only social presence keeping them going.
Why people split
Some treat policy as a tool for the median user; a ban that helps eight teens out of ten is worth the cost to two. Others treat policy as a question of who pays โ and a ban that lifts general wellbeing by hurting the most vulnerable group is morally lopsided in a way the median calculation doesn't capture.

What the split says
Every new capability quietly removes a previous choice โ the question is whether that trade is worth it. Once votes come in, this section will show how voters balance capability against risk.
Worth asking yourself
- Who benefits from this, and who absorbs the risk?
- Could you reverse the choice if it backfired?
