Why this dilemma matters
These dilemmas put rules and circumstances against each other and demand a verdict. Choosing “Shut it down: no community's livelihood justifies ongoing environmental harm to others” prioritises the letter of the law; choosing “Keep it running: condemning workers to poverty is also a form of injustice” gives more weight to the spirit behind it.
