Why this dilemma matters
These dilemmas put rules and circumstances against each other and demand a verdict. Choosing “No: chi ha pagato il suo debito con la società merita le stesse opportunità di chiunque altro” prioritises the letter of the law; choosing “Sì: certi ruoli di responsabilità richiedono uno standard più alto, indipendentemente dalla riabilitazione” gives more weight to the spirit behind it.
Worth asking yourself
- Does context excuse the act, or just explain it?
- Who is the rule protecting, and who is paying for it?
