Why this dilemma matters
No legal answer is the same as a moral answer here — both have to be argued. Choosing “Apply the rule equally. Fairness means no exceptions” prioritises the strict rule; choosing “Make the exception. People matter more than the precedent” gives more weight to a context-aware exception.
